Lawrence "Sully" Ross conceived the idea for the Virgil Project in 2000. At that time, he was a junior Anthropology major and veteran UWC consultant at UT-Austin. Sully wanted to extend the consulting services of the UWC in order to reach those who couldn't visit the center in person. His design for the Virgil Project ad two goals: (1) to mimic the question-and-answer style of a good consultation, which focuses on the process of writing; (2) to make students feel that they are getting good advice from peers, not forboding figures of authority.
Virgil would like to thank Rosa Eberly, Sue Mendelsohn, Lynda Nuss, Kristin Hoerl, and Jane Barnette for their help with getting the project off the ground, and Alyssa Harad for past project coordination and promotion. We would also like to thank Alison Perry, Rebecca Wilcox, Todd Onderdonk, Alanna Bitzel, Melissa Miller, Zach Floca, Tiphany Orticke, and Jeff Tabares for working on the project.
Past directors have been Sully Ross, Sue Mendelsohn, Lynda Nuss, Alyssa Harad, and Shawn Rice.
